Love without swiping – Is that still a thing?

I’m 42. Single. A mom. An entrepreneur. And… yes, I’m in perimenopause. For those wondering, “So, what is that anyway?” – imagine your body giving you a monthly preview of what it’s like to constantly think, “What now?” But that’s a story for another time. What I will say is: I’m looking for someone who sees that I’m not just a strong woman, but also someone who sometimes just needs a little space.

Between raising my son, running my business, and juggling my hormones while pretending everything’s fine, I catch myself wondering: Where is that great guy?

Nope, I don’t have any dating apps on my phone. Not because I’m old-fashioned – but because I’m done with conversations that start with, “Hey sexy, what are you looking for here?” and end with, “Oh, you have a kid? Good luck with that.”
No thanks, swipe on, darling.

You also won’t find me at events, mixers, or dance floors every weekend. Not because I don’t love a good time – but because I’m just happy if I land on the couch on Sunday with a face mask on and no one yelling “Mom!” from the kitchen.

Deep down, I still crave love. Real love. The kind where someone gets it when your mind is overwhelmed, someone who wants to grow with you – even when you’re not sure where you’ll find the energy tomorrow. Someone who understands that I’m in perimenopause and that my mood can shift from “let’s conquer the world” to “where’s my blanket?” in under a minute.

Well, I’ve come to this conclusion: Love doesn’t have to come through an app or in a glittery dress on a Friday night. Love can just… show up. In your own flow.

Maybe he’ll be sitting on that soccer sideline next to me, with his own kid who can never find their socks. Maybe I’ll meet him at some networking event I didn’t even want to go to, but went to anyway. Maybe my neighbour knows his cousin and one day says, “Jen, I know someone perfect for you.”

Because no, I’m not actively on the hunt. But I’m keeping the door slightly open. I don’t have time for games, but I do have time for connection. I don’t need a rescuer, but I’d love someone who can make me laugh when I’m running on empty – someone who’s willing to grow alongside me.

So to all the men who think women like me are “too much”:
Nope. I’m exactly enough.
Busy? Yes. Tired? Sometimes.
But loving, funny, loyal – and ready for something real.
And maybe, just maybe, you’re the man who wants to grow with me.

And who knows… maybe he’ll just show up one day – no push notification required.

Love,
Jennifer
